What does the role involve

We have an exciting opportunity for a Creative Designer to join our Marketing & Communications team. Reporting to the Head of Marketing & Communications, you’ll bring OTA’s brand to life through high-quality graphic design across print and digital.

This is first and foremost a graphic design role, with around 80% of your time focused on design. You’ll develop visual concepts and creative, designed brochures, flyers, posters, merchandise and event signage, and create digital assets including web and email graphics and banners, email templates and presentations. You’ll take briefs from concept through to finished artwork, bringing strong design judgement and attention to detail at every stage.

You’ll also be a key custodian of OTA’s visual identity, maintaining brand templates and assets and helping people across the organisation apply the brand consistently, including our adherence to AAA accessibility standards. You’ll manage print production, liaise with printers and merchandise suppliers, maintain our image library and manage the creative and operational aspects of OTA’s merchandise ranges and print-on-demand store.

Around 20% of the role will involve multimedia – editing and repurposing video, creating simple animations and motion graphics, and working with Marketing & Communications colleagues to produce polished branded content for digital channels.


What we need in the role

We’re looking for a skilled designer with strong graphic design fundamentals, an excellent eye for layout and visual consistency, and the creative judgement to make every piece of work look its best.

You’re confident taking a brief and turning it into an effective visual solution. You care about the details, understand good design and know how to get the best from an established brand identity.

You’ll also bring an understanding of what works visually across social and digital channels, designing with mobile and digital engagement in mind and keeping across emerging video and content trends.

Just as importantly, you’re easy to work with. As OTA’s sole in-house designer, you’ll work primarily with people who aren’t designers. You can understand what they’re trying to achieve, provide expert advice and turn their requirements into effective creative solutions. You’re patient with feedback, highly organised, comfortable juggling competing briefs in a high volume environment and take pride in producing consistently high-quality work.

What responsibilities form part of this role?
  • Graphic design and creative development across print and digital

  • Visual concepts and creative for marketing campaigns and communications

  • Visual brand management, including templates, assets and brand application, including strict adherence to accessibility guidelines

  • Print production and supplier management

  • Video editing and multimedia content

  • Image library management

  • Merchandise design, production and management, including administration of OTA’s print-on-demand store

  • Creative workflow and process improvement


The team

You’ll be part of OTA’s Marketing & Communications team, working closely with marketing, content, communications and digital specialists to support priorities across membership, learning and development, advocacy, events and other areas of the organisation.

It’s a busy, collaborative environment with a varied pipeline of work, so you’ll need to be comfortable moving between projects and balancing multiple deadlines. You’ll also work directly with stakeholders across OTA and liaise with external printers, merchandise providers and other creative suppliers.

Specific skills/qualifications needed

Qualifications required:
  • Tertiary qualification in graphic design, visual communication or a related discipline; or equivalent professional experience.

Experience required will include:
  • Minimum 4 years’ professional graphic design experience, ideally within an in-house creative team, agency or similarly fast-paced environment.

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality graphic design across digital and print.

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat, within a PC environment.

  • Strong knowledge of print production processes, including artwork preparation, proofing and liaison with printers and production suppliers.

  • Strong understanding of brand identity and demonstrated experience applying and maintaining brand guidelines, templates and visual assets.

  • Excellent attention to detail and quality control, with strong knowledge of typography, composition, colour, hierarchy and layout.

  • Demonstrated video editing skills and experience producing simple multimedia content for social and digital channels, with an understanding of mobile-first design and current visual content trends; motion graphics experience is highly regarded.

  • Highly organised, with experience using project management platforms such as Monday.com or similar to manage multiple briefs and competing deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative, patient and solutions-focused approach to interpreting briefs and working with stakeholders.
