The Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) is looking for an experienced events professional to lead the delivery of our major conferences and events across Queensland and the Northern Territory.

This is a hands-on role with real ownership. You’ll manage major events from early planning and program development through to budgets, venues, suppliers, speakers, sponsors, registrations, on-the-day delivery and evaluation.

Your major events will include the Queensland Annual State Conference, Queensland Awards for Planning Excellence, Northern Territory Conference and Awards, along with major regional conferences and summits.

What you’ll do
You’ll:

  • lead the end-to-end planning and delivery of major conferences and events
  • develop event programs with PIA staff, committees, and members
  • manage event budgets, registrations, venues, suppliers, and contractors
  • coordinate speakers and event logistics
  • work with sponsors and partners and deliver agreed benefits
  • develop project plans, timelines and run sheets and keep complex events on track
  • support other professional development and member events across Queensland and the Northern Territory
  • evaluate event performance, member feedback and financial outcomes.

About you
You’ll have strong experience delivering professional events, including multi-day conferences, and be comfortable taking responsibility for the full event lifecycle.

You’ll be organised, proactive and able to see what needs to happen well before the deadline arrives. You’ll be comfortable working independently from home while being part of a small, nationally distributed team.

Experience managing event budgets, venues, suppliers, sponsors and multiple stakeholders will be important. Experience in a professional association, membership organisation or the planning, property, built environment or government sectors would be an advantage.

The role requires some travel within Queensland and the Northern Territory, along with flexibility around major events.

About PIA
The Planning Institute of Australia is the national body for Australia’s planning profession. Our purpose is to be the home of Australia’s planning profession, bringing planners together, developing professional capability and championing the role of planning in creating great places and thriving communities.

Why join PIA?
You’ll have flexibility and autonomy, while taking ownership of some of the planning profession’s most significant events in Queensland and the Northern Territory. You’ll work closely with planners, industry leaders, volunteers, sponsors and a collaborative national PIA team.

If you’re an experienced events professional who enjoys owning an event from the first idea through to the final delegate leaving the venue, we’d love to hear from you.
