The Topic:  Constitutional Review

This briefing will provide a summary of things to look for when reviewing your organisations constitution. A constitution must work for the organisation in the good times and the bad times. Our guest speaker will present case studies which explain why an important part of any constitution review is making sure a constitution is useful if the organisation is ever in a difficult situation. This briefing will cover:

Objects:

  • Are your objects consistent with current activities, website and future direction?
  • Are your activities within the ambit of your objects clause?
  • Did you know your organisations tax status depends on your objects clause?

Membership structure:

  • Does your membership structure work for your organisation?
  • Are there historical reasons why certain classes of membership exist which are not needed?

Board structure:

  • Is the structure of the current board the best structure for the organisation?
  • Is there scope for co-opted directors?
